A MOVIE COLLECTOR

9 / 22 / 13

My late grandfather was an eccentric, peculiar type of person who most of the time spends his waking hours locked in his room reading thick volumes of encyclopedia or watching the television. When he was alive, I found him reserve and seldom engage in small talks. When he died, his room was eventually locked and I have no idea what are stored therein.

I asked my mother, who gave in one day after constant begging, if I can take a visit to this long forgotten place. To my amazement, the room looked like someone has been using it for quite a while. The bed sheets and curtains were still crisp and the smell was reminiscent to that of a cleaning detergent. The place was full of nostalgia.

What caught my attention is the floor to ceiling panel full of old DVDs and CDs. I never knew my grandpa was a collector of movies. The cases looked new and were meticulously arranged by category like what you see in a movie rental store. There were documentaries and memoirs, fiction, art films and history. I couldn’t identify which one were his personal favorites but I was pretty certain he was able to watch all of them. On my mental calculation, he must have watched two to three movies a day.

When I went back from college break on my third year, I was totally disappointment to see an empty room. My parents told me they are converting the space to a cocktail bar where they can entertain guests. I never saw those movie collections because they decided to sell them off online. Some of it they traded for the new ones. They were at least happy to have maximized the place and earn something from selling the old stuff. They said that it is time for the old CDs and DVDs to go and give hew happiness to their new owners.

Home Entertainment

family watching TV

Watching movie and TV shows are always on the top things in our family list as a form of entertainment. Back in the day, if we need to catch a film, we all need to line up in a movie house to do so. But with the birth of the new technology that enhances the entertainment industry, we could do so right at the comfort of our homes. No need to exert too much effort in terms of time and energy.

First, there were only TV shows with too much commercials in between that you’d get annoyed spending half of the time for the promo ads and half of the air time for the show itself. Then came the cable channels that somehow gave a lift in terms of quality, a more clearer and crispier video, picture and audio output. A wide variety of choices for shows , locally and internationally.

Then there’s the Dish and Satellite network now. A more high definition programming that we could all get from companies like Direct TV Phoenix, they offer a lot more engaging and entertaining programs to the delight of the whole family. What’s good about it is that they have packages that you can choose from, the one that fits your budget, interest and preferences.

Another benefit is the recording through HD DVR,  I used to dread and hate missing TV shows and movies because I am busy with some important things to do, that I can only rely on asking others how the story went. LOL! Now, there’s the wonder of the recording through DVR’s. With their Genie, you can have shows (five of them) record at the same time. That’s quite a lot of capacity right?!   We could really say that we can have quality entertainment right at the comfort of our home.

For Music Lovers

11 / 13 / 11

It has been quite sometime since I listened to some of my favorite music. I miss those days when all I do during my spare time is to sit or lay down while listening to soothing music to relax. Now that I have two kids with me, most of the time- all I would hear are screams, crying, shouting and fighting. LOL!

The only time for me to get some “me time” is at night where everyone is sleeping. From there, I can do face my computer and keep up with my online activities like watching videos and listening to music.

I am thinking of buying a AH-D5000 headphones for me to fully enjoy the music  and to avoid disturbing the kids with my sound tripping at night :D. The unit uses a light weight magnesium frame so I won’t be having a hard time listening with it for a longer period of time.

Kids Source of Entertainment

6 / 5 / 11

My kids just love watching cartoons, it has been a part of their early education in terms of learning new things. When they were just around their toddler years, they would really love to sing and dance with Barney and friends.

barney and friends

The very first song that they have learned to sing with is the “I love you”. I would even sing them that song to sleep.

Now that they are in grade and pre-school years. I would allow them to watch educational shows on Bell Télé (Belle TV). I would also limit their use of the computer, they are into playing online games but I make sure that it’s educational and kid friendly. Thank goodness to modern technology, things have been easier for us to keep kids busy while they learn and play. Its just a matter of proper guidance and time management.

Unwanted Hair

4 / 6 / 10

Us girls faces many physical changes as we grow up, during our teenage years is the most crucial stage as we get to experience the said transition during this time and we get to adapt with the necessary changes in order for us to understand ourselves more. From having your menstrual period to having that zits on your face plus added up is the unwanted hairs on our body, especially those armpit hairs which is very awful looking.

I remember stumbling upon this photo of the celebrity Jessica Alba few months ago while she was in Saturday’s Art Of Elysium gala in Los Angeles with his hubby Cash Warren. Showing off her armpit being zoomed and few fine hairs seems to appear.

Being a celebrity, they should be wary enough to know and part of their everyday lives are the that cameras and paparazzi taking a snap on them. And I believe that part of our personal hygiene is to get rid of those unwanted hairs by plucking or even getting some permanent hair removal through laser if we have the budget which I think is more convenient and more neat as it won’t re grow again having that smooth and hair free armpits. Saves you from embarrassment right?!

Catching Up on Fave Celebs

3 / 15 / 10

Working on 5 days a week, logging in on the net to check out and update with my bogging needs and tasks plus and two kids needing our full attention and endless household chores really keeps my hands full that whenever I get the chance to have a free time, I spend it all through sleeping! :D Oh yes, sleeping is one way for me to catch up on lost energy during the busy days. Sometimes, I get the chance to kill time by browsing the net and read about my one favorite past time which is to get updates on celebrity news and entertainment.

It’s been ages since I watched a movie in the big screen, the reason why I can’t relate with friends when they rave about some nice movies like the movie series written my Stephen Meyer’s like twilight etc.. and how awesome Rob is. lol I rarely get the chance to catch up on my favorite celebrities. The only way I get updates through the internet. Thanks to the celebrity sites where I get loads of updates and oh well, gossips about my fave artists. :P I even didn’t get to watch the recent 2010 Oscars awards and didn’t get the glimpse of Hollywood’s Celebrity Style Fashion on red carpet. The most awaited moment of every awards night aside from the bagging of trophy of course is the showcase of fabulous dresses and fashion statement of each celebrity.
